Okay, so I'm calling this a "ToDo" instead of a "Review". First, I don't want to seem too serious about this. I'm no literary critic. Heck, I don't even read that much besides my law school textbooks these days. Second, I don't get any benefit from writing this ToDo. I had to purchase the book like anyone else but you could probably check it out from the library. Summer is approaching so I thought I'd pass on a fun book that I read last summer and thoroughly enjoyed. The book: The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella I read this during my summer associate position. For the first time in, well, as long as I can remember, I didn't have to bring my work home with me. I didn't have 300+ pages of reading to do at night so I thought I'd find time for a book. This one was recommended by a partner at the firm. It is fun and very light reading. It's about an overworked female attorney hoping desperately to make partner. She has given her life to the firm until something changes her life unexpectedly. Then she faces a series of decisions and life lessons of a different sort than she is used to. She opens her heart and broadens her world-view. She is faced, in the end, with the recognition that making partner is not the only thing in the world worth living for. The book is has a lot to offer: - typical "is the grass greener?" query - love - work/life balance decisions - ethical dilemma - humiliation - soul searching Again, it's an easy read and a great compliment to a summer at the firm!
