Congratulations to the winners of the 2008 Ms. JD Public Service Summer Scholarships!

Ms. JD is pleased to announce the recipients of its Public Service Summer Scholarship. Selected from over 100 applicants nationwide, the recipients and honorable mentions demonstrate extraordinary commitment to promoting women in the law through public service careers.
SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Megan Rodgers grew up a devout Cardinals fan from St. Louis, Missouri. She left the Midwest and headed to Bowdoin College for undergrad where she graduated phi beta kappa, majoring in sociology with a minor in government and legal studies. At Bowdoin, Megan was a captain of the varsity softball team and spent a semester abroad in Bologna, Italy. After graduating, she spent a year working for the Department of Justice in the Antitrust Division in Washington, DC. While there, she volunteered at Women Empowered Against Violence and also as a youth softball coach. After a year in DC, she returned to the Midwest and recently completed her first year as a wolverine at the University of Michigan Law School. At Michigan, Megan received a Certificate of Merit in Property and is a board member of the Women Law Students Association. She is currently working as a judicial extern in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for Judge St. Eve. Megan is very honored to be selected as a Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship recipient.

Carlie J. Boos graduated from the Ohio State University with degrees in Political Science and Womyn's Studies in 2007. Currently, she is a 2L at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she is focusing on public interest law. This summer, she is clerking at the Equal Justice Foundation in downtown Columbus, Ohio. EJF provides legal assistance to low income persons in a variety of cases, including civil rights, consumer rights, and fair housing. She wishes to thank her parents, Charles and Nancy, and her brother James, who have always supported her in all her endeavors.

HONORABLE MENTION
Crystal Stevens is entering her third year as a graduate student at Emory University’s Center for the Study of Law and Religion where she is pursuing a Juris Doctor in conjunction with a Masters of Theological Studies. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Crystal received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. While at the University of Virginia, Crystal was involved with the Impact Movement, a Christian campus fellowship, as well as Residence Life. She was a National Achievement Scholar and a Bailey Family Foundation scholar. Crystal currently serves as Director of Community Service on the National Board of the Black Law Students Association. She also volunteers with the Dekalb Rape Crisis Center. Crystal hopes to practice international law upon her graduation in 2010. Her hobbies include cooking, dancing and football.
