how friendly is the law profession for non US citizens
Hi,
I am neither a U.S citizen nor a green card holder. I am currently unemployed as I am on a dependent visa (H-4) which does not allow me to work. I hold a B.S degree in Molecular Biology and a M.S degree in Nutrigenomics and would like to become a lawyer. Although intellectual property is what I am inclined towards right now, I might change my specialization based on my experiences at law school. I have a few questions that I am trying to find answers for before I apply to law schools. They are:
1. Will law firms sponsor H-1 visas or will I continue to be unemployed after law school and the huge debt that I will be taking on to pay for it. Basically, should I time my graduation so I have a green card (through my husband's employment based GC application) when I am job hunting?
2. If I have to wait for the Green Card, then I can't start law school for another 2-3 years atleast. In the meanwhile, will it be viewed negatively that I was not employed but a house wife for the past few years? Will it also affect me negatively that I will be 33 or 34 when I apply for law school and will probably have my first kid by then?
Any and all input regarding this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
