Short Personal Description

Personally, just getting to law school was a struggle. Not academically. Living in the South, I was more often told what women can't or shouldn't do than what they could do or were doing. Every day I try to break out a little further from that. At the same time, though, I find many of my values, those core beliefs that resist change, are mine due to female socialization. I have a deep sense of community and interconnectedness that means I often have trouble understanding the "maleness" of law, that rugged individualism that cares about the bottom line rather than the vast collateral damage that sort of cost/benefit analysis inflicts. Every day I strive to hold onto those humanitarian principles as well. The tension between these sometimes directly adverse positions and the compromises I make between them are my story.
