Ms. JD Weekly Round-up: Week Ending March 2, 2012

Lets start celebrating W0men's History Month in the Golden State. California Women Lawyers: 134 Years and Counting.

Everyone says to start thinking about building business early. Lawyerist offers the best explanation (in checklist form!) we've seen in awhile on what you should be doing and when!

February's Sunday Morning Talk Show Tally: 52 Men; 4 Women.

A California Jury has Awarded the Largest Workplace Harassment Judgment in History: $168 Million.

The ABA Midyear Meeting in New Orleans featured a great panel from the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession (Ms. JD's partner in the Ms. JD Fellowship!“Visible Invisibility: Breaking Down Barriers to Women’s Leadership.” There are two great pieces out on the panel: check out the video here and the article here.

Pepperdine has refused to recognize an on-campus student group dedicated to LBGT issues. Alumni are boycotting to show their support for these minority students.

NALP's latest study finds that most (70%) of part-time attorneys are women. NALP also found that 13.4% of all women lawyers work part-time compared to 2.7% of male lawyers.

At Ms. JD we think male sponsorship is important in law firms not just because there simply aren't as many female partners but because men have a lot to teach. The Careerist has an article about potential pitfalls and ways to avoid them.

And as the law school training debate continues, we have two new takes on it ... law school jobs have "never been easier to get."
