1. Three things that #PROPEL me are: I can only choose three?  :)  There are a million things that #PROPEL my life but #1 has always been my family.  Pictured below is my husband, Jono, my Mom, Sister, Jono, and I hiking in Montana, and my rescue pup, Wes, with his favorite (no longer squeaky!) toy Alligator.    Other things that #PROPEL me include:  (2) a deep commitment to justice and empowerment, things that I try to work toward, in some small way, every day and (3) a passion for learning that means that even when I make mistakes (which we…

XOXO To the Best Community in Law - My Last Letter as Ms. JD President

Dear Ms. JD Supporters:  Ten years ago, a small group of law students came together to address a problem: women being treated unequally in their law school classroom. To raise awareness, they formed a blog called Ms. JD. Ten years later, Ms. JD is 10 different programs serving a community of women Determined to Rise. And rising we are. In its short history, Ms. JD has produced incredible women leaders who are holding leadership positions in the ABA, NAWL, and their local bar associations, are executive directors of national non-profits, top producing associates and partners in their law firms, starting their own…

We are one week out from welcoming the Ms. JD Community to San Francisco for the Stronger Together Conference and we could not be more excited.  (Don't have your tickets yet?  Well get on it!  Click here.)  I'm particularly excited to show off the city that I now call home.   One thing that was particularly important for me in planning this conference was to give you a taste of our city but not just of San Francisco ... that would never be enough for me ... I wanted to give you a taste of all of the incredible women and…

What Stronger Together Means to Ms. JD President Katie Larkin-Wong

To me, stronger together means . . . we cannot go through life alone and our professional lives are no different!  When we have supportive colleagues, employers, partners (in the office and at home), and friends, we are stronger together. I’m a member of the following professional organizations, which have demonstrated to me that there is strength in numbers . . .   The Bar Association of San Francisco - When I moved to SF from Northwestern Law, I had a small group of classmates and friends in the city.  BASF has helped me make numerous professional contacts plus I’ve…

Why Ms. JD is Celebrating Men - Ms. JD’s TIM Initiative (#TIMInitiative)

This week, Ms. JD is officially launching Ms. JD's TIM Initiative.  TIM is an acronym for The Incredible Men and the initiative aims to recognize and promote men who are sponsoring and investing in women's careers and women's initiatives.  Althought TIM is an acronym, it is also a nod to Ms. JD's male board member and CFO, Tim, who is an unabashed feminist and has been an incredible supporter of Ms. JD. Like many new projects, Ms. JD's TIM Initiative began in a small way.  (Is it weird that I'm envisioning GE's Ideas Commercial as I write this?)  The first…
