JAG

Hello,

I am a Pre-Law student exploring my options. I have always thought of the military as an option, but I have recently began to consider it more seriously. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has served or knows anyone that has served in the JAG Corps. my main concern is me being a woman and how the gender dinamics play within military life. I would appreciate any advice given. Thanks!

job hunting tips from recent grads

For anyone who graduated law school in the last three years, please respond for edification of current job hunters and also for the edification of your online poster, who's gotten really curious about how the world looks to newly minted lawyers:

(1) describe your first job and your current job (job duties, working hours, advantages and disadadvantages, starting pay, have  you been promoted?)

(2) describe how you got your first job and your current job (networking, answering ads, sending resumes broadcast, etc.)

That first job...

Hi All,

I'm seeking general advice about job hunting after graduation from law school.  I have earned my JD but I will not receive my bar results until mid-November.

How can I make myself a marketable candidate during this transition period? Also, how can I market myself even though I lack the experience that many other candidates have?

Any adivce would be appreciated. Thanks!

Clerking for a magistrate judge?

Average: 1 (1 vote)

Does anyone know what the differences are between clerking for a federal district judge and a magistrate judge? Is clerking for a magistrate judge worth it?

Clerkships: How to find deadlines and decide on judges?

So as a 2L, I'm finding this whole clerkship process a little bit daunting. Particularly managing the due dates of all the different applications and navigating which judges make sense to apply to. First, does anyone have a good way to find out which judges are NOT following the federal hiring plan? I've done some looking on websites but that information seems to be really limited. I know some of the state courts have already begun accepting applications and I don't want to miss out on opportunities just because I couldn't find the deadline!

Seriously: What to Wear in an Interview

Average: 3 (5 votes)

The post on whether or not to wear a ring in interviews (here) got me thinking about all the other nagging questions regarding what to wear (or not) in interviews.

Most people will tell you to go conservative. But what does "conservative" really mean? What about women with long or curly hair--up or down? Are some colors always a no-go, or do those red shoes show your independent mind? (I say this because I once passed a exam/interview wearing my favorite red shoes, and when a friend learned this, she was in SHOCK that I wore them.) The tension seems to be between what some might characterize as your individuality or even essense (especially in the case of hair), and playing it safe.
