The World's Most Powerful Women

Forbes magazine released its list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women last week. The list includes several women with Juris Doctorates, including Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, ranked at #72, and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, ranked at #28.
Two female attorneys rank among the Top Ten, although both are now in executive roles--one is Chairman of the FDIC, the other is the CEO and President of WellPoint.
Sheila C. Bair, the #2 most powerful woman according to Forbes, was sworn in at the 19th Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission in 2006. Forbes describes "Bair's domain" as "the last stop for capital-starved banks (and their insured customers) before going under"--not an easy task considering recent banking failures. She receieved her J.D. from Kansas University School of Law.
Angela Braly, the chief executive and president of WellPoint, ranks at #4. Prior to her current position in the U.S. based health insurance company, she served as general counsel for WellPoint, in addition to a variety of other roles. Forbes notes that "Braly crashed through health insurance's glass ceiling but still earned $26 million less last year than her male predecessor." Braly received her Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
