11 Tech Tips for Your Legal Tech Work

The Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP) and Pro Bono Net hosted the 2018 edition of 50 Tech Tips for Your Toolbelt this past June. You can find the recording here and a list of all the tech tips here. These are the tips I shared for the webinar and a few bonus ones:

  1. Color Zilla - A browser extension for identifying the colors of your site or any other colors that you want to use for other programs.
  2. TimeAndDate.com - You can find here all of the calculators you need for time and distance. The date calculator is useful for deadlines and adding or subtracting days to a certain date.
  3. mobiReady - Test your website performance on mobile devices. You can receive reports and suggestions too. With MobileTest.me, you can test your website in smartphone & tablet emulators.
  4. Full Page Screen Capture & URL Shortener Browser Extension - Full Page Screen Capture is available on the Chrome Web Store. Install it as a browser extension to take a full page screenshot of your current browser window (all of it, without having to scroll down). You can then download the screenshot as an image or in PDF. Bit.ly is available as a browser extension so that all you have to do is copy, customize, and share your links straight from your browser. No need to copy the long URL, paste it into the URL shortener, and then copy the short URL!
  5. Asana Connect - If you like managing your projects in Asana, there is a world of integrations you can try with Asana Connect. There are more than 90 applications you are probably using already that you can integrate to make your work easier.
  6. Web Whatsapp - Send and receive messages through Whatsapp straight from your desktop computer or laptop.
  7. CamScanner - Turn your phone and tablet into a scanner. Save documents as images or PDF and share across other applications.
  8. Snipping Tool - Choose form Free-form, Rectangular, Window, or Full-screen Snip to save to your computer.
  9. Thesaurus.com - Expand your vocabulary and avoid repeating words.
  10. Multiple Keyboards - If you speak more than one language, you can have language keyboards in just one place. Select the one you want to use when writing in that language.
  11. DA Button Factory - Easy and fun site that lets you generate your own website buttons. See example below:

Bonus Tips

  • Momentum - Personalize your dashboard and wake up to a new place and quote every day.
  • Venngage - Free infographic maker. You can choose from a variety of templates to create FAQs, organize and explain data, or Know Your Rights documents.
  • IconFinder- Find even more icons and icon sets for your website or materials.
