5 Reasons Why You Should Attend the Ms. JD Honors Awards Reception
By Raychelle Tasher • February 25, 2015•Ms. JD, Conference
Ms. JD will host its annual Ms. JD Honors at Madame Tussauds in the heart of San Francisco on Thursday, March 5th from 5:30pm-8:00pm. The reception will recognize the recipients of the 2015 Ms. JD Honors, given to women and men who demonstrate passion for their careers and share that passion with others. Attendees will see Ms. JD present the first-ever TIM Initiative Award. Ms. JD launched The Incredible Men (TIM) Initiative in 2014 to celebrate men who are active champions for women’s advancement in the legal profession. These men not only value equality and diversity in the profession, but earnestly and enthusiastically support women and women’s initiatives. Ms. JD’s TIM Initiative was named after Timothy Miller who currently serves on the Board of Directors of Ms. JD. Another highlight of the evening promises to be keynote speaker, Patricia Gillette, Partner at Orrick’s San Francisco office and a national speaker on gender equity in the law. Read more about the 2015 Ms. JD Honors Award recipients on Ms. JD’s blog here.
Tickets for the Ms. JD Honors reception and Ms. JD Conference events are currently available here. Slides and congratulatory cards can be purchased in support of the award recipients here.
As we gear up for the conference, I wanted to give you all 5 quick reasons why you should attend the awards reception.
- The attire: Cocktail
Who needs a better reason to throw on a little black dress than the Ms. JD Honors reception? I bought this really cute black Calvin Klein dress right after the winter holidays and I am dying to wear it out. It’s the perfect LBD because it can go straight from the office to happy hour. The Ms. JD Honors reception includes a cocktail bar and amazing networking with some of the best lawyers and law students across the country. Why not get dressed up for some midweek fun with Ms. JD? Let’s not leave out TIM initiative men who may have a special bow tie planned for the evening to spruce up their office attire.
- The keynote speaker: Patricia Gillette
Pat Gillette is a national speaker on gender issues. Here in San Francisco, Pat Gillette is a Partner at Orrick’s San Francisco office and a national speaker on gender equity in the law. At Orrick, Pat practices labor and employment law. Pat is a phenomenal speaker and is so excited to present an incredible message to the reception attendees. Who could miss the opportunity to hear more about issues that affect the Ms. JD community?
- The inspiring award recipients:
This year I had the pleasure of serving on the Ms. JD Honors Awards Committee and I had the tough task of selecting 6 winners to receive our Ms. JD Awards. There were so many nominations this year from lawyers across the nation. Out of the many applicants, 6 were chosen in the following categories: Road Less Traveled, Woman of Inspiration, The Incredible Men (TIM) Initiative, Sharing Her Passion, and Strength in Numbers. All of the award recipients will be attending this year’s award reception and speaking about their passions. I can truly say that each of the winners have inspired me and I am anxious to hear more about their stories.
- The venue: Madame Toussads.
Okay, so I have never been to Madame Toussads and I am really excited that the Ms. JD Honors awards reception will be hosted at the famous wax museum. The history behind Madame Tussads is so incredible and all of the wax exhibits will be available to view during the cocktail hour. The venue is located in the heart of San Francisco near the fisherman’s warf district. Madame Tussads features wax creations of historical figures, music artists, sports legends and more. I think this is a great event for groups to attend. You can bring your colleague from work or your law school study partner.
- Meet Ms. JD’s Executive Director Heather Asher and the Ms. JD Board of Directors.
In 2014, Ms. JD announced its new executive director Heather Asher. This year’s conference will be Heather’s first conference as Ms. JD’s executive director and we are thrilled to have her on board. Heather has been a great addition to the Ms. JD family and she is so much fun! I think Heather is a great reason to attend the reception so that you can have a chance to speak with her about Ms. JD and learn more about getting involved with our projects and programs. In addition, Ms. JD’s Board Members will be working the room throughout the evening but feel free to stop and chat as they love hearing from members of our online community!
