Amazingly Wicked: Tricks that Will Create a Productive Work Space

There are only a few hours in a day, so employees make the most of their time to finish their tasks. However, being productive at work isn’t as easy as learning the alphabet. It needs and requires more than just managing an employee's time

We all know that the office space we work in plays a major role in our productivity and success. Whether you are working in a big company or starting your own business, you will want to pay attention to everything that surrounds you.

Small businesses don't have the luxury to completely change their office to a workplace that every employee would love. However, with enough knowledge and consideration employers can create a productive workspace that each employee would like. Here are some tricks that employers can do to create a productive workspace.

Clean and Spacious Office

Clutter is one of the factors in decreasing productivity as it not only makes the workspace look unprofessional but also decreases the efficiency of employees.

We recommend renting a storage solution so that it can be used to store all the extra office supplies and other things that are not currently being used in the office, thus freeing up space around the workplace. Click here to learn more about the benefits of custom storage solutions.

A clean and spacious office will allow employees to move around freely without any obstruction. It will also give them more headspace to focus on the tasks at hand.

Lighting

One of the most important factors to stay focused and inspired is to have a proper illumination. However, this factor is one of the least invested and most overlooked parts in an office. When an office has a bad light, there is a possibility that it can cause eyestrain, headaches, fatigue, and overall irritability. Also, dark spaces can trigger depression.

For a company office, there are no control over the general lighting, it is better for an employee to bring their own, only if they need it. However, offices need to consider using light therapy devices or natural light bulbs. In achieving a well-lighted office, it is better to use natural lighting. Opening the doors and windows can bring the natural light in the quarter.

Furniture

Besides lighting, an office must also invest in having furniture that will give comfort to the employees. It is an important thing for a workplace to have a comfortable chair and desk. There are a lot of stuff to consider, especially when purchasing chairs and desks.

Here are some quick ergonomic checks for the office furniture:

  • The eyes must be 24-36 inches away from the computer screen. Also, make sure that the top of the monitor is below or at the eye-level.
  • An employee’s feet must be flat and firm resting on the floor.
  • Also, to minimize back pains and reduce pressure on the spine, it is best to use a slightly reclined chair.

Chair

A comfortable office chair must have armrests. The armrest should be at par with the shoulders for it to relax and for the elbows to bend at least 90 degrees and for the feet to be firm and flat on the floor.

Desk

Desks and chairs are equally important in an office. When buying a new desk, employees need to make sure that the desk is the ideal height. Of course, employees can adjust the height of their seats, but it is better to plan these things ahead of time.

Ergonomic Consideration

An employee’s productivity depends on how their physical body can carry their performance. A long tiring day at work can cause their backs and muscles in the neck to ache, and headaches are expected to take place. Carpal tunnel is a total downer. It is important for companies to invest time, effort and money in selecting office furniture that will let the employees work comfortably.

Create and Use Systems

There must be an existing system inside the office that will help in reducing clutter and anxiety. Departments can create color-coded folders and files that will hold the information. It will also avoid confusion when it’s time to find documents. There is also an established routine of each person’s task. It can help maintain time management and organization of tasks.

Employees must be responsible for getting rid of their paper clutter. Companies can use the “touch it once” system. It is a system where an employee picks up a file or paper, then decides what to do with it. Employees can either toss it, file it, trash it or shred it.

Add Colors to Promote Productivity and Positivity

According to study, colors can affect the person’s emotion and behavior. Employers should take advantage of the positive effects of colors in a workplace. Colors can sometimes contribute different emotions to an employee. One employee can feel anxious that will soon lead to procrastination. Painting the wall with colors that are calming can help in an employee’s productivity. Also, employers should utilize and maximize any furnish and accessorize the area that can contribute to increasing productivity and comfort.

Here are some colors that will fit in an office setting:

  • Pink helps in reducing feelings of aggression, irritation, and loneliness.
  • Red helps increase blood flow and heart rate while improving both energy and attention.
  • Orange helps in boosting enthusiasm and self-esteem.
  • Yellow increases creativity, alertness, productivity, and clarity.
  • Green helps promote efficiency and also aids in decreasing fatigue.
  • Blue is for enhancing feelings of stability, trust, calmness and confidence. It also encourages both focus and creativity.

Takeaway

Productivity in the office is an important factor to ensure sales. One of the biggest factors that can affect an employee’s productivity is their surroundings. There are important things that employers often overlooked and give less priority. The furniture and arrangement of an office have a significant impact on the performance of an employee.
