With just a few days away from the 2017 Ms. JD P.R.O.P.E.L Conference, I want to introduce your host of the conference—the Women’s Leadership Coalition at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. My name is Lindsey Blum, and I am the president of the WLC this year and a 2L at Northwestern. We are thrilled to be welcoming everyone from Ms. JD to our school and are excited to share our campus with you all! Before you arrive to the conference, I want to share more about the WLC, our mission, and other events that we’ve been hosting throughout the year!
The Women's Leadership Coalition is committed to fostering a supportive network for female law students and discussing issues of interest to women in the legal community. Through a variety of different events, we strive to connect students with female role models and provide resources to aide their professional development. The WLC is dedicated to creating a sense of community among our members. We pride ourselves in the sophistication and professionalism of our members.
Part of fostering a community of women at the law school includes building a strong support network for the female students at the school. We provide new students with internal and external mentors, access to our outline bank, and an informal support network. In addition to hosting traditional professional development programming, the WLC strives to provide creative and inspiring events that continue to address the challenges that women face in and outside of law school.
Our theme this year is “Forging Unique Paths, Together” and many of our events this year have highlighted women who began their legal careers in interesting ways, are using their law degrees for creative problem solving, or who have unique takes on issues in the legal field. We have had speakers ranging from a decorated Olympian to young attorneys to professors discussing their latest research.
We have been delighted to partner with Ms. JD and build this conference with them. I, along with the rest of the WLC Board, am looking forward to a day of compelling ideas, challenging conversations, and the opportunity to connect with you!
