Ed. Note: In 2010 Ms. JD launched the Global Education Fund to enable women in developing countries to pursue legal educations who otherwise would not have access to further education. Ms. JD International Scholars are being supported by the GEF's grants to Makerere University in Uganda. Each year, the Ms. JD Global Education Fund has made it possible for two more young Ugandan women to pursue their dreams of becoming lawyers by attending the law program at Makerere University! Mary Nakale is a 2011 Ms. JD International Scholar in her 3rd year at Makerere University in Uganda thanks to the Global Education Fund. A message from Mary:
Am happy to inform you that I was able to complete my long holiday. I worked with Foundation for Human Right Initiative as a friend to sensitize people about the rights they have, am working hard to see that I become a member of the foundation.
The academic year started and am in year three now. I have not got the results for last semester but I will send them immediately I receive them. I am offering five course units this semester; Family Law 2, Jurisprudence 1, Law of sale of Goods, Banking and Negotiable Instruments and International and Regional Human Rights.
When I complete my degree, I want to work with Foundation for Human Rights Initiative to provide legal aid to those who will be in need of it. I also want to work with the Uganda Women Lawyers Association [FIDA UGANDA] to help people whose rights are abused especially women and children.
Thank you so much for your support and I promise to help the needful.
