Ms. JD seeks a passionate Editor-in-Chief to research, plan, write and edit web content. As the Editor-in-Chief for Ms. JD, you will help edit, organize and manage Ms. JD’s website content. The Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for planning, creating, editing and publishing information on Ms. JD’s website.
The successful candidate is a skilled writer and researcher, with an eye for detail and an understanding of the special requirements of web writing. The goal is to produce creative web content to appeal to our community. While not required, this position may be particularly beneficial for those with an interest in attending law school or interested in law more generally.
This is a part-time independent contractor position expected to require 5-10 hours of work per week. TheEditor-in-Chiefwill work remotely with Ms. JD’s Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors located across the country.

As the U.S.’s premier organization for early career lawyers and aspiring female lawyers, Ms. JD brings legal practitioners, law students, and aspiring lawyers together to drive the critical national conversation on gender issues in the legal sector. To fulfill this mission, Ms. JD hosts and facilitates a number of events and the following programs throughout the year:
The Fellowship program, which promotes mentoring and professional development for future female attorneys;
The Writers in Residence guest blogger opportunity;
The Reference Library on Women in Law;
Annual Conferences;
Public Interest Scholarships; and
The Global Education Fund.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key duties include, but are not limited to:
Proofread and edit material
Schedule all blog posts for promotion on website
Organize, distribute, and respond to communications received by general email account
Produce and publish new content in a creative way
Provide training to board members and other staff on navigation of the website backend
Ensure content is up-to-date, including producing and editing webpages, staff and Board biographies, and program webpages
Comply with copyright and privacy regulations
Monitor website’s traffic to measure popularity
Keep track of developments in web technology
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have all of the qualifications listed below.
Proven work experience as a web editor
Editing skills with a demonstrable portfolio of published work
Hands on experience with MS Office, InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools
Familiarity with content management systems
Excellent writing skills in English
Attention to detail
Creative mind
BS in journalism, communications or related field
COMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
