If you have just passed the Bar, congratulations! We know it is immensely relieving to have all that hard work pay off. Years of schooling and late nights studying mean you are now officially a lawyer! It may feel like all of the hard work is behind you, but now it is time to really put all of that hard work to use by hitting the ground running.
To get your legal career off to the right start, though, you need to make sure to put your best foot forward. If you are interested in building your own legal practice, or even just making a name for yourself in the legal community while you find the right firm to join, you will need to build a personal brand.
It takes a lot to stand out among the thousands of JD holders and individuals who pass the Bar exam each and every year. To really stand out, you will need to take some unique steps to look a little different from the rest of the crowd.
Get your name out there by signing up for services offered by Quill, such as personalized business cards, websites, e-mail blasts, e-mail addresses, and much more. Quill has been in the business for decades- it is their job to make other businesses succeed.
If you think you can go it alone, you may be in for a rude awakening. Slipping your resume to a couple dozen law firms is likely to turn up nothing- zip- zilch- nada. You want to stand out, not blend into the crowd. At the least, attach a business card to your resume when you hand it in. Better yet, e-mail a link to your professional website. Even better, SEO optimize your site so that it ranks high on Google so that you have the law firms competing to contract you, not the other way around.
Getting started on your legal career is exciting. You have done a lot of hard work getting the schooling behind you. Now comes the follow through in getting your career off on the right foot.
