It is an incredible feeling for the board members of Ms. JD to be able to say that we are in full swing of preparing for our Sixth Annual Conference on Women and the Law, Passion Forward! Although it may not seem significant at first, this conference represents a huge marker in Ms. JD’s short, but sweet, life as a non-profit.
Ms. JD started out as the brainchild of several extremely intelligent and proactive female law students from law schools around the country, and is now a nationally recognized non-profit with eleven board members and an incredibly supportive and encouraging follower base. Although not always easy, their common desire to do more and their passion to better the legal profession for women and men alike is a clear example of women living their lives passion forward. Following suit and standing by our mission statement, Ms. JD has worked over the past seven years to support and improve the experiences of women law students and lawyers.
This year’s conference has given us the unique opportunity to pursue another Ms. JD passion: bring more women into leadership. For the first time in our history, Ms. JD has invited women outside of the Board of Directors to get involved with planning our conference. You will hear more about and from these incredible women over the next several months but we could not be more excited to have them be a part of the Ms. JD team! We hope that their experiences at Ms. JD will propel them not only to bigger and better things at Ms. JD but also to bigger and better things in the profession in general. That’s because we believe that you should come into Ms. JD, get some incredible leadership experience, and then go share that with the legal community at large. We hope you’ll join us in congratulating and supporting Ms. JD’s Conference Planning Committee: Hollie Ashby, Erin Callahan, Valarie Hogan, Irene Lehne, Hollyn Randolph, and Liz Robins.
On a daily basis, people from across the world join us on our website to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. What we have learned is that even though many of us have taken different paths, we still face similar challenges, fears, and concerns. By providing you with a sounding board through our blogs and monthly events, we want you to find motivation, inspiration, and empowerment within your career and life. It is our hope that through hearing one another’s voices, you are able to find comfort and what moves you—what truly makes you passionate!
Recognizing that it isn’t always easy to pinpoint what makes us passionate, the Ms. JD Board of Directors will share our own experiences with you about what motivates us to live Passion Forward. Starting this week, several of our board members will be giving you an inside look into their lives and their journey towards finding their passion. Each post will explore what living passion forward means to us, as well as advice and things to consider when exploring your own passions.
At the end of the day, our hope is that these posts will inspire you to stop and reflect on what you are doing and where you are going—your own journey of self discovery! As you continue your journey, don’t forget to join us at Ms. JD’s Sixth Annual Conference, Passion Forward, February 21-22, 2014 in Austin, Texas.
