Dear Sisters, Dear Daughters: Words of Wisdom from Multicultural Women Attorneys Who’ve Been There and Done That

Karen Clanton

The book contains a unique, inspirational collection of letters from 44 experienced women attorneys of color to the next generation outlining various roadmaps for success in the legal profession as a minority woman attorney. Minority women lawyers encounter persistent and pervasive barriers to their career opportunity, growth, and advancement. They experience unique disadvantages based on the double whammy of race in addition to gender. Each essayist provides strategies for success for their practice setting. However, despite their practice settings, there are consistent themes as most of the authors reflect on the importance of family, friends, religion, values, and giving back.
