A Diversity Program Without Work/Life Componet Just Won’t Work

Joan C. Williams

Are the diversity programs of law firms effective in retaining women? Apparently not: Only 17.9 percent of partners are women, and only 1.48 percent are women of color. The problem is not so much recruitment as it is attrition. It also provides in-house counsel with concrete guidance on how to measure whether a law firm's diversity efforts are serious and effective.
