Gender Bias Within the Law School: ‘The Memo’ and Its Impact

This article, which reproduces the faculty "memo" in which Shelia McIntyre chronicles incidents of sexism and anti-feminism she observed and experienced during her first year of law teaching, offers the institutional background to these incidents, reconstructs what she learned in the process of writing the memo, and analyzes some of the personal, collegial, and university-wide consequences which followed widespread circulation and discussion of the memo.
