Joanne Lipman realizes that gender equality and understanding in the workplace cannot happen unilaterally. For this reason, her article is directly addressed to males in order to educate them about reasons why their female colleagues may exhibit certain behaviors, such as unnecessarily apologizing. Ms. Lipman also offers corresponding responses to these behaviors that men could implement in an effort to create a work environment where misunderstanding is minimized and gender equality follows.
