Kat Macfarlane is a law professor at the University of Idaho, where she teaches Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure and Civil Rights Litigation. She received her J.D. from Loyola Law School, and her B.A. from Northwestern University. Before entering academia, Kat was a federal law clerk, a Big Law associate, and an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of New York. Her academic writing focuses on civil rights and civil procedure. She volunteers as a patient advocate and has written frequently about her experience with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which she was diagnosed with at age 1. Kat was born in Toronto, and grew up shuffling between Kalamazoo, Michigan and Rome, Italy. Since 2017, she has lived in bustling Boise, Idaho with her partner Carey and their dog Cooper.
