2010 Ms. JD International Scholars

Ms. JD is pleased to announce the 2010-11 Ms. JD International Scholars: Joaninne Nanyange and Monica Athieno.   Joaninne and Monica are two young women in Uganda who dream of becoming lawyers.

Joaninne Nanyange wants to become a human rights activist for women and children after she earns her law degree from Makerere University.

Monica Athieno wants to be a judge who ensures that suspects are treated fairly and that rule of law prevails in her country.

A Ms. JD Global Education Fund grant was awarded to Makerere University's Gender Mainstreaming Division, which runs a program to provide need-based scholarships for women to attend the University.  The Initiative conducted an extensive search process and selected Joaninne and Monica to serve as the inaugural Ms. JD International Scholars based on their educational achievements, financial need, and leadership potential.

Your support helps to make the dreams of international students like Joaninne and Monica a reality!
